BPUB Moving to Phase 2 of Boca Chica Waterline Upgrade Project, Implementing New Traffic Control Rules
BROWNSVILLE, TX – The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) Boca Chica Waterline Upgrade Project is continuing to progress with the installation of a 16-inch waterline moving closer to the four corners intersection on International Boulevard and will implement Phase 2 of the Traffic Control Plan on Monday, January 23, 2023.
Phase 2 of the project will require tapering the two eastbound traffic lanes starting at the intersection of Boca Chica Boulevard and Security Drive. Eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane. The turn right yield lane on State Highway 48 to access Boca Chica Boulevard, will be temporarily closed. All traffic will be required to go through the intersection.
The Boca Chica Waterline Upgrade Project will provide reliability and improve BPUB’s water distribution system, in conjunction with the new 2 Million Gallon Elevated Storage Tank, which is currently under construction.
During construction, the Brownsville Police Department will be redirecting traffic during peak hours until residents become accustomed to the new traffic changes. All construction dates and times are approximate, and the end date and time may vary due to the nature of weather, soil conditions and job provisions.
Required permits for this project have been granted by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) as Boca Chica Boulevard is designated as Texas Highway 4. BPUB, TxDOT and the City of Brownsville departments have coordinated on this effort to make it a safe and efficient operation. BPUB apologizes for any inconveniences the closure may cause.
