Real Estate Acquisition

The Real Estate Department provides right-of-way acquisition services for BPUB in conjunction with the City of Brownsville. It ensures all right-of-way acquisitions follow established industry standards and comply with regulatory requirements set forth by local, state, and federal agencies.

The Real Estate Department collaborates and provides functional guidance to BPUB engineers, managers, directors, and executive management regarding project progress, disposition of land rights, property transactions, and land acquisitions.

Department functions for the acquisition of real property for Capital Improvement Projects and other projects for use by the Brownsville Public Utilities Board as follows:

  • Real Property Acquisition (Fee Simple)
  • Right-of-Ways Acquisition
  • Permanent Utility Easements Acquisition
  • Abandonment of Easements
  • Encroachment Licenses
  • Water Rights Purchases
  • Applications for Amendments to Certificate of Convenience and Necessity for Service Area Boundary Changes (CCN) at The Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT) for Electric Projects
  • Utility Crossings Permits – Irrigation Districts, Drainage Districts, Railroads, County Roads, State and Federal Projects.
  • Reviews New Subdivision and Commercial Developments
