BPUB Announces Project SHARE Scholarship Recipients
BROWNSVILLE, TX – The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) awarded 11 graduating high school seniors with $2,000 scholarships through its Project SHARE Scholarship Program to support their pursuit of higher education at accredited universities this fall.
Established in 1985, Project SHARE was created to assist families with utility bill payments and expanded in 2005 to include scholarships for local students pursuing higher education.
“Congratulations to this year’s recipients,” BPUB General Manager & CEO Marilyn D. Gilbert said. “We are honored to support these students as they pursue higher education and prepare to contribute to the continued growth and success of the Brownsville community.”
Recipients were selected based on their academic achievements, extracurricular involvement and a 500-word essay. Applicants are required to live in households that receive BPUB electric, water or wastewater services.
Funding for the scholarships is provided through BPUB’s strategic partnerships, which help expand educational opportunities for students.
