Drought Restrictions

BPUB's Drought Contingency plan uses watering rules and restrictions to manage the region's water resources. The rules & restrictions limit water use based on specific Amistad/Falcon Reservoir levels or when other water emergencies strain the system.

Stage 1 is automatically initiated every year on May 1, or when the Amistad and Falcon Reservoirs levels reach 51%.

Stage 2 is activated when the Amistad and Falcon Reservoirs levels reach 25%.

Stage 3 is activated when the Amistad and Falcon Reservoirs levels reach 15%.

Stage 4 is activated when one or more of the following conditions: 1) Major line breaks or pump or system failures occur, which cause unprecedented loss of capability to provide water service or 2) Natural or man-made contamination of water supply or transmission and distribution system or 3) Significant decrease or lack of water supply.
