BPUB Rate Adjustments

The Brownsville City Commission approved a series of rate adjustments for electric, water and wastewater services on May 3, 2022, to be effective June 1, 2022.

As a community-owned essential services provider, BPUB is committed to providing a high level of service while planning and preparing to meet future needs and expectations in order to maintain a financially sound, self-supporting utility system. Below is a breakdown of the rate adjustment schedule so customers can know what to expect.

Overview of New Rate Adjustments

  • Electric

    BPUB will decrease the base rate by approximately 22 percent phased over two years, beginning June 1, 2022. The remainder of the adjustment will be effective June 1, 2023.

    BPUB will begin phasing out its bill reduction program and the fuel, purchased energy and marketing charges (FPEM) seen on a BPUB electric bill. The fuel and energy charge will vary from month to month, depending on market conditions during that billing period.

  • Water

    Increases in the water rates and customer service charge effective June 1, 2022.

  • Wastewater

    Wastewater rates and customer service charges will also see a series of increases effective June 1, 2022.
