Stage 3 Water Shortage Warning

Water Use Restrictions:

  • All restrictions from Stage 2 remain in effect unless added to or replaced by Stage 3 rules.

  • Landscape irrigation including, but not limited to, irrigation systems and hose-end sprinklers, hand-held garden hose, soaker hose, hand-held bucket or water can, no larger than five (5) gallons in capacity, or drip irrigation system will be limited to one time per week based on the last digit of the service address from midnight through 7:00 a. m. and from 7:00 p.m. through midnight.

  • Residential car washing will be allowed once per week on the designated landscape watering day between midnight through 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. through midnight.

  • Fundraising car washes are prohibited.

  • New landscaping plants may be watered twice weekly on the designated landscape watering schedule discussed under Stage 2. Property owners will apply for a Landscape Irrigation Variance by submitting it to their retail water supplier.

  • Adding water to pools, except to maintain structural integrity, is prohibited.

  • Use of water from hydrants will be limited to fire fighting-related activities or other activities necessary to maintain public health and safety.

  • Operation of any outdoor ornamental fountain or pond for aesthetic or scenic purposes is prohibited.

  • The use of water from scenic and recreational ponds and lakes (resacas) is prohibited, except where necessary to support aquatic life.

Condition:

Active when the level of the United States' water stored in the Amistad and Falcon International Reservoirs reaches 15% or 504,600 acre-feet.

Goals:

The goal for Stage 3 is a 10% reduction in average daily water demands and a 20% reduction in maximum daily water demands on the Brownsville PUB system.
