BPUB: ERCOT Cancels Request for Electrical Conservation

BROWNSVILLE, TX – The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) announces that the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has called off the request that customers throughout Texas conserve electricity because there is once again ample generation on hand to meet the expected demand.

ERCOT had issued an appeal for electrical conservation earlier Tuesday because a stalled cold front over Texas caused higher demand than forecasted and a number of power plants were offline for maintenance. During this time of year, many power plants schedule maintenance to prepare for the high-demand summer season ahead.

BPUB customers’ assistance with this conservation request was greatly appreciated and helped ensure that the state’s electrical grid operated normally.

BPUB will keep customers up to date on any changes in the Texas electrical system or any requests for conservation that it receives from ERCOT.
