BPUB Activates Emergency Plan as Crews Repair Poles Damaged in Storm

BROWNSVILLE, TX – The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) announces it has activated its general emergency plan in response to the damage caused by the storm that hit the Rio Grande Valley on Sunday.

The storm resulted in extensive damage within BPUB’s service territory. At least four transmission poles and at least 10 distribution poles were damaged, but BPUB continues to assess the situation.

BPUB crews have already been out making necessary repairs. At its peak, there were approximately 8,500 customers without power, but BPUB crews have reduced that number to approximately 600 customers currently without power.

The activation of the BPUB General Emergency Plan ensures essential personnel are on 12-hour shifts until the emergency is at an end. At this time, BPUB estimates it will be approximately 18-24 hours until service has been restored to all customers.

BPUB crews are working to restore service to all customers as quickly and safely as possible. As customers are restored, updates will be shared on BPUB’s social media channels on Facebook and Twitter. For quickest response, customers with service interruptions are recommended to use BPUB’s outage application at https://assist.brownsville-pub.com/. Customers can also call 956-983-6300.
