Report Meter Tampering

Meter Tampering is Dangerous & Illegal

Tampering with an electric meter can create a fire or can result in injury or death from electrocution. In addition, tampering with a water meter can create a health hazard.

Altering your meters' functions to receive electricity or water and tapping the utility system without paying for services is also illegal.

These actions can result in:

  • Disconnection of services
  • Additional fees
  • Penalties
  • Police report
  • Criminal prosecution

Meter cans have seals to protect them from being opened or tampered. To report broken seals, tampering or utility service diversions, call the BPUB Meter Tampering Hotline at (956) 983-6600 or use the link below.
