Suspension of Rotating Outages Until Further Notice

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Rotating outages have been discontinued for BPUB, until further notice or unless any changes arise with the approach of the next winter storm. The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) continues to monitor the weather and statewide grid conditions and will notify the public regarding any future Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) advisories.

Although rotating outages are suspended, ERCOT may employ them again if electrical demand again starts to exceed available power generation. To help restore power to as many people as possible, BPUB advises residents to gradually plug-in appliances and other large equipment to avoid overloading the electric transmission system.

With the approach of yet another winter storm, here are some tips to help customers conserve electricity:

  • Turn down thermostats to 68 degrees.
  • Close shades and blinds to reduce the amount of heat lost through windows.
  • Turn off and unplug non-essential lights and appliances.
  • Avoid using large appliances (i.e., ovens, washing machines, etc.).
  • Wear warm, comfortable clothing

While rotating outages have been suspended, there may be some customers experiencing power outages due to equipment-related failure. We advise those customers to continue reporting any outages in their area by going to https://assist.brownsville-pub.com or calling (956) 983-6300. We ask customers to remain patient while BPUB personnel further investigates the outage.

BPUB will continue to keep the public informed of the latest developments involving any restoration of services.
