PUBCAP Meeting to Feature Brownsville Country Club Project

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board’s (BPUB) citizens advisory panel will feature a presentation at the BPUB Administration Building on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. on the ongoing infrastructure improvement project at the Brownsville Country Club (BCC).

The Public Utilities Board Consumers Advisory Panel (PUBCAP) meets once a month and provides customers a forum to express community concerns. One of the topics to be covered at the Jan. 18 meeting is the BCC Electric Project. The purpose of the project that started in mid- November 2016 is to replace underground primary electrical cable.

In some cases, the cable in the area is as much as 40 years old. Over time, these cables degrade, and this can have a direct impact on electrical service reliability in that area. Replacing the aging cable will ensure greater electrical reliability for the BCC area for years to come.

This major project will be conducted in 23 sections with an estimated work time of 24 months. Because crews will need to access utility easements in some customers’ yards and there might be short periods without electrical service as crews work, communication between BPUB and residents in the area is critical.

This PUBCAP meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to ask questions about what this project means and how it’s progressing. Representatives from BPUB will be on hand to field any questions or concerns residents might have.

PUBCAP, established in 1983, consists of 11 members. Ten members are selected based on recommendations made by PUBCAP members, with one member a BPUB employee acting as a liaison. Meetings are held once a month, typically the third Wednesday of each month from 5:30-7 p.m. at the BPUB Administration Building, unless otherwise specified. These meetings are open to the public.
