BPUB Notifies Customers of 12-inch Water Line Break
BROWNSVILLE, TX – At around 8:40 a.m. today a contractor broke a 12-inch water line on the corner of West Ruben M. Torres and El Mar Street. The water break affected approximately 1,000 customers in the subdivisions West Alton Gloor, Military Highway, West Ruben M. Torres down to Laredo Road.
The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) isolated the break by closing water valves and completed the repair of the water line at approximately 3:45 p.m. After the repair, BPUB reopened the valves and began flushing the waterlines in the area to remove any silt that may have entered the water distribution system.
In addition, BPUB collected water samples in the area, and the results indicate that the water chlorine levels are adequate as per state requirements and is safe.
BPUB crews will continue to flush out the area throughout the night. Customers are encouraged to flush the water lines in their homes to remove any remaining silt. This can be done by:
- Flushing ALL hot water taps for 15 minutes
- Flush ALL cold water taps for 5 minutes
- Flush ALL remaining cold water taps and plumbing appliances for 5 minutes.
