BPUB: ERCOT Requests Electrical Conservation

BROWNSVILLE, TX – The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) announces that the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has requested that customers throughout Texas conserve electricity due to high generation outages and higher than expected demand.

ERCOT says the state is currently in Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) 1 status, which occurs when reserves dip to a critical level and conservation is urged to ensure normal electrical operations.

BPUB is requesting that residential and commercial customers voluntarily conserve electricity until ERCOT announces that conditions have returned to normal. Compliance with this instruction will prevent the need for rotating outages or loss of electricity throughout the state. This process will continue until the danger of overloading the electrical grid passes.

Customers can conserve electricity by turning off unnecessary lights, not washing and drying clothes during this time, and raising the thermostat on their air conditioners.
