BPUB Announces Temporary Road Closure, Initiates 30th Street Waterline Upgrade Project

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) announces a temporary road closure on 30th Street from Southmost Boulevard to Lazy Acres Road starting Monday, Jan. 30 through Friday, March 3, 2023 to install a 16-inch waterline that will connect the newly constructed 2 million-gallon elevated storage tank on Southmost to the main distribution line on Southmost Boulevard.

BPUB’s new 2MG Elevated Storage Tank will replace two older water tanks: the elevated storage tank demolished in 2018 formerly located on Southmost Boulevard and the elevated storage tank at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) campus. UTRGV’s elevated storage tank is scheduled to be demolished once the new 2MG Elevated Storage Tank is fully operational.

The following streets will be closed during each phase of the 30th Street Waterline Upgrade Project (see map below):

  • Phase I – Jennifer Ave. to Lazy Acres Rd.
  • Phase II – Stanolind Ave.  to Jennifer Ave.
  • Phase III – Southmost Blvd to Stanolind Ave.

All construction dates and times are approximate, and the end date and time may vary due to the nature of weather, soil conditions and job provisions. BPUB will continue to provide updates with changes and/or revisions to the contractor’s traffic control plan and construction dates.

BPUB apologizes for any inconveniences these temporary closures and detours may cause. To learn more about road closures and detours, please visit www.brownsville-pub.com. If customers have any questions or concerns, they should call (956) 983-6100.
