The Colonias Improvement project provides a better solution to the sewer collection and disposal with first-time access to a public sewer collection system to the residents of the FM 511-802 Colonia areas located southeast of Brownsville. This will eliminate a significant health risk to these residents.

BPUB was awarded grants, not only for the creation of the infrastructure necessary for the wastewater collection system but also for qualified homes to be connected to the sewer system and have their septic tanks decommissioned.
