The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) has a diverse electric system that includes three power plants, 14 substations and over 730 miles of distribute power. Since 1907, electricity has been produced in Brownsville and distributed throughout the city's neighborhoods. BPUB continues to prepare and plan for Brownsville’s growth and its electric demands. BPUB has the capacity to supply electricity to its customers even during periods of peak demand.


The Silas Ray Power Plant, located in Brownsville, is fully
owned and operated by BPUB.
