| FLYING
KITES |
|
A nice breeze on a summer day can be great for kite
flying. But its important to remember that flying a kite near a power line can be
deadly.
- Only fly kites in an
open area, away from power lines.
- If a kite gets caught
in a power line, do not try and remove it. Let go and contact BPUB at (956) 983-6300.
- Never fly a kite that
has a wire or wet string. It can conduct electricity and cause shock to the person holding
on.

|
Always
play it safe when flying a kite.
NOTE: Its important that parents share these tips with their children to avoid
dangerous situations or accidents. |
| DOWNED
POWER LINES |
A
downed or low hanging power line can still have electricity running through it and can
cause serious injury or even death. If you see a downed power line, call 911 immediately.
Here are some important tips to remember:
- Never go near a
downed power line. A strong wind may cause the line to move quickly and violently.
- Do not drive over a
downed power line or under a low hanging power line.
- Do not attempt to
remove a person, animal or tree that is caught in a power line. Again, call 911 for help.
Downed power lines
can be very dangerous. Power lines are more likely to be down during a hurricane or storm,
so be on the lookout. |

| TREE
TRIMMING |
When trees make contact with
power lines it can be very dangerous. To avoid a potential danger, keep trees trimmed away
from any power lines you may have near your home.
- Survey the area for
any hidden power lines before you begin trimming trees.
- If you see a power
line in or close to a tree, call BPUB at (956) 983-6300 to come out and trim the tree for
you.
- Dont wait until
a storm or hurricane is nearby to call for a tree trimming. Be prepared beforehand.
Trees and power
lines dont mix, so it is important to always keep your trees trimmed at least 10
feet away from any power line. |
