BPUB projects reflect a sense of progressive stewardship, and we seek to spread that sense of responsibility throughout our community as we provide water, wastewater, and electrical service to a city growing as quickly as Brownsville.
This new power plant will run on clean burning natural gas, which will cause less pollution than other methods of power generation. In addition, we will utilize treated wastewater to cool the turbines at this power plant to create the steam necessary to produce that electricity. It’s a perfect marriage of environment and economy.
The Robindale project is the first major design-build wastewater project in Texas. This means one team works under a single contract to provide services. This streamlines work under a single team from concept to completion to save costs and ensure faster delivery. It is also a greener way of treating wastewater.
BPUB is currently engaged in an ambitious long-term project to clean the city’s resaca system. By cleaning Brownsville resacas, BPUB greatly increases the resacas’ ability to be used as an alternate water source by adding more storage capacity. This is especially important in times of drought.
An alternate source of water, BPUB has heavily invested in this plant that uses reverse osmosis membrane technology to treat salty groundwater and turn it into usable drinking water. This project has already proven to be a great asset to the community and is a model that other cities have sought to follow.
The BPUB has been awarded funds from the Texas Water Development Board’s Economically Distressed Areas Program (EDAP) to construct a sewer collection system to serve some residents with first-time sewer access, thereby reducing significant health risks to colonia residents.
What all these projects show is that the BPUB is a leader in our industry. Upgrades mean facilities are more efficient and better able to serve our community. We continue to look for ways to provide the best – and most affordable – service for our customers, community, and our environment.
