COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Maintaining a Healthy Community

Brownsville PUB employees met the challenge in 2001 as they walked many miles and raised thousands of dollars in their commitment to the community and in their fight for a better quality of life.

In 2001, Brownsville PUB employees participated in and sponsored over 20 community activities. Three such volunteering projects that the Brownsville PUB not only sponsored, but participated in, were the American Heart Association Heart Walk, the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and the March of Dimes WalkAmerica. About 25 eager employees attended the Heart Walk and March of Dimes each and collected close to $3,000 for both events. The Relay for Life welcomed about 65 employees and family members raising over $4,400 for cancer research.

Another event that brought out dozens of Brownsville PUB employees was the Southern Cameron County United Way Day of Caring. Besides giving money from their paychecks, employees also spent this day cleaning up the city's cemetery and restoring other areas around town.

As an active community partner in Brownsville, the utility's employees also made appearances in the annual Charro Days Parade and Christmas Parade. Brownsville PUB employees and their families waved to the crowds from a decorated utility truck in both events.

When labor wasn't needed, the Brownsville PUB was again there to help with monetary contributions. During 2001, the company sponsored various non-profit organizations and fundraising events; nearly $50,000 directly benefited these local organizations.

The Brownsville PUB not only enjoys providing award-winning services to the area, but it also enjoys getting involved and passing the baton to its neighbors, friends and family in the community.
